I agree Shrek was funnier, but I wouldn't say better.
I'm tempted by the collectors DVD, simply for the short films. I think my son is going to get it for christmas.

Both films are excellent, and both are certainly better than the lacklustre Bug's Life.
And I'll ignore Ice Age altogether if I might, please.

I prefer Monsters Inc 
I did love Shrek though, but it didn't send me screaming out to buy it (although the new DVD with the soundtrack included is so very tempting)
