"Where was sea" indeed!
I apologize, guys. School has just started, and as usual, I'm overburdening myself with work
and extracurriculars. I'll be using every bit of my free time (read: cutting further back on my
sleep) to get the Quest done, so be forewarned that future chapters are going to be a bit shorter
than usual and quite wordy.
I promise, though, we're getting close to the end!
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
sea feigned compliance for as long as she could manage, which turned out to be long enough as
Marv and Gw7en went to fend of the Jehovah's Witness in the den. sea found the timing of the
man's evangelism visit to be quite ironic; he came to save the sinner who couldn't recall her
sins.
sea gave Marv and Gw7en thirty seconds to get out of hearing range, then threw off the covers
and laced her boots up. She slid the window upward, wincing slightly as it squealed slightly. She
held still for a moment, listening for approaching footsteps. She heard none, so she continued her
exodus.
Yo struggled for a good twenty minutes before he had made any noticeable headway on the
ropes, but being that he had nothing better to do, he kept at it. The knot was beginning to loosen,
and he could feel the fingers on his left hand tingling - Shazz had apparently been feeling rather
vindictive when she'd tied the knots.
He quite nearly had his hands free when he heard a noise in the corner of the room. It was
fairly far away, indicating a large room. He squinted into the darkness, but could detect no more
traces of life.
Yo sat, silent, motionless, waiting for the other party to reveal him or herself, but no one did.
Affy watched sea climb out her bedroom window and run for her rented car. He wondered why
she hadn't just left out the door like a civilized person, but then again, it was sea.
Affy let the screen door bang closed behind him, and saw Marv, Gw7en, and a rather nicely
dressed chap with an air of military discipline all jump at the sound.
'Is there any particular reason why sea was climbing out her window like a teenager sneaking
out of the house for a date?'
He asked them.
Marv and Gw7en exchanged looks, then ran to open sea's door.
The room was, of course, empty.
