Every time someone posts to your "hidden" thread it shows up in
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/info
So you can't avoid the rest of h2g2 knowing about it

That's why you use a non descript subject line for the journal. Calling it say, "click here for hot sex action", WILL attract other's attention

Putting a title like "Click here for hot sex action" would probably cause you to get ignored around here, or cause a flood of jokes

I've just checked the <./>info</.> page and this thread had dropped off the list. The turnover seems to be about 8-10 minutes which is pretty quick given it's gone midnight, so I reckon privacy could be maintained most of the time.
Of course this thread is just about to be bounced to the top again.

You make it way too complicated!
All that searching...
You'll just have to remember the F-number for the journal. If you write that down as soon as you have made the journal, you don't even have to log in and post as yourself before hiding the journal.
That said, there is NO SUCH THING as a private conversation on h2g2!!!
This is NOT secure, in lots of cases people WILL find it. If you want privacy, then use email or IM, not h2g2!

Fair point, but which would you find easier to remember. Fyadda-yadda-yadda?thread-thingy or 'Marnite'?

I might be weird, but I remember lots of thread numbers.
If you're on your own computer you could also just bookmark the thread!
