Hm, Maybe I Should Rethink...

...the decision not to see this film. The original 'True Grit' was the only western I ever went to a cinema to see - and that in spite of its having John Wayne (ugh) in it. My sister just wanted to moon over Glen Campbell...
I love the Coen Brothers, though, so it might be worth looking at desert landscapes for a couple of hours. I am never sure what westerns say about 'being American' - I'm American (I think), and I've never been remotely near the sort of places you see in westerns. I despise their sagebrush folksiness and 'men are men' platitudes. My idea of a good western is 'The Frisco Kid' - where the rabbi saves the train robber from the Indians and talks about the horse's 'tuches'.
I wonder if Kim Darby was considered a supporting actress or a leading actress in the original 'True Grit'? She looked like a 14-year-old boy in a dress.
Anyhow, thanks, even though you've got me singing, 'Some day, little girl, the sadness will leave your face...'
