It's a shame people only stop when they know it'll kill them or make them go nuts.

personaly I'm no mental picture, with several 'insidence' I'd rather forget', but Beer and other Alco' Drinks will never be a problem for me at least, but I still feel a sense of hoplessness when people say things like 'I'm going down the pub' and 'A few won't hurt' smiley - cry

I half agree with you, Doctor. I wish I'd made more of an effort to curb my drinking earlier - I think I'd probably have achieved a fair bit more with the first half of my life if I had done so. I definitely think I've done the right thing in stopping now. Excessive drinking is a problem that tends to get progressively worse if it isn't dealt with, and certainly I've heard some horrendous stories from the other people at my support group.

On the other hand, I haven't suddenly taken the view that all alcohol is evil and everyone should be teetotal. It's only a problem if you find it hard to control your intake, which I have done in the recent past. I don't see it as a cause for mourning every time someone says 'I'm going down the pub'. I'm planning to spend a few hours in pubs myself later this week, first after a smiley - football match with some friends on Thursday, then at the Manchester h2g2 meet on Saturday. I will be on smiley - oj or something similar, but I certainly won't be lecturing all the smiley - ale drinkers. Good pubs make fine meeting places - it's just what you consume in them that can mess you up if you're not careful.

Oh I don't lecture, I've never once said that people shouldn't drink I only post to rimind people that I personaly never go in for it (maby I should write why) and how when I look at it logicaly people only drink for two reasons, to escape from reality and because everyone else does. both of which are bad for your mental health. smiley - sadface
