Sweets tin? Like the ones for Quality Street, Roses, Heroes, Celebrations. The Celebrations "tins" are now plastic so would be good. Of course if you had to buy the tin of sweets to get the tin it would be cheaper to just buy a mixing bowl.

Mixing bowl substitute: Saucepan. Also serves as a salad bowl or jelly mould.

Do we have any photographs we could use for this? Perhaps of such wonderful things in action. Though sadly since my marriage and adulthood I have a full range of kitchen equipment.

I could easily photograph some of my improvisations - since Mala's wonderful Entry on this subject I have implemented baking cakes in all sorts of containers.
But I'd prefer to see someone else's photographs included.
One way to share photos is via flickr or other photo share sites. The Artists are always pleased to consider contributions where the subject matter is hard to obtain. The Guide Eds are dependent on illustrations now being offered by the community, because since leaving the BBC we no longer have access to their photo library. So, please get clicking!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Is it wrong that I'm thinking of buying a large cup to improvise a cake in, so I can use it for this entry, when I already have some really cool cake baking cases. (Not tins, they're silicon).

Z - a large cup, for a large cupcake? Sounds very fitting. You could serve it in that straight to the table. Looking forward to the photo already.
And congratulations Mala. I am sure if you still have any alterations that you wish to make to this Entry we can arrange a sub-editor to 'fix' it for you.
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Recommended for the Edited Guide!

I hadn't actually changed anything so far based on the suggestions, not sure it was right to pick it
