Hi folks! Here's my first bash at a guide (and guideML) entry; it's been through Writing Workshop and they brow-beat me into putting it in here. And with this year's finals on this Fri (23rd Aug 2002) it seems timely.

A few points: I have some more info on past winners and choices of tune, but as some have been impossible to find I have left these out.

I still say this is a fab entry. Funny, informative, and makes me wonder if there is any chance I can make it to Finland next summer.

I think this is an excellent entry

'Twould benefit from a few subheaders I reckon, and maybe more of an introduction. I felt that it got going before it had really explained much about air guitars, the kind of people who play them (long hair), what kind of music they're usually associated with (metal), when they were first spotted.

I'll certainly recommend it if it's my turn and if the entry is finished

Nice one.

However, I don't want to get into defining air guitar. There's an excellent edited guide entry for that already (referenced in my first line) and I wouldn't want to cruft up h2g2 with redundant information, would I?

Any more suggestions?

OK, I've shortened the quote at the end after re-reading the beeb's IP faq, even thought I attributed the source. Probably unnecessary but it's no loss to do it, as it was mostly in for the giggle-factor and I kept my fave bit .

Thanks Gosho! It's quite nice to have the first entry I wrote edited. I have a nice warm fuzzy feeling of achievement now.

As for the smiley, fab idea but quite tricky in 16x16 pixels, eh? It would end up looking like a stick insect abusing itself.

Still if it could be done, why stop there?

What an odd day. I helped edit/photoprocess/write something for work and I found out today it won't be published, but as I also found out that this here article has been picked/scouted/italic'd I feel kind of upbeat.
