I would like to see a new skin which incorporated some Ajaxy goodness. Let's say you have 200 posts showing, and you want to see if there are any new ones. Refreshing the entire page is hard on the server and hard on you. Now imagine a little button automatically appearing saying "three new posts: click to show". And when you clicked, they'd be downloaded (just the new three, in JSON format, instead of the whole page, in HTML format) and added to the list of posts. Facebook does this sort of thing quite nicely, but it's actually become almost a standard practice across many sites to add new stuff into the current page without reloading the entire page.
I'd like to see a published API which would allow any web-developer to create their own skin for h2g2 and upload it. It would then be made available to a group of volunteers who test new features (and this is one group you'd have no trouble getting volunteers for), and, once they were happy with it, available to everyone.

What a great idea! I have no idea how on earth we would implement it, but it's a great idea.

Well, look at all the themes available for Wordpress. And we know that the DNA software is skinnable. So something like this must be possible.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
