Yet another entry from my aborted h2g2 University of Life project about the American Civil War Battle of Gettysburg.
Since we're celebrating the 140th anniversary this year, I reckon I'd better get these into the EG at some point eh?
As always, comments and complaints welcomed!

Very nice, Jimi, but could you make it clear that this was a civil war battle? Is the reader is expected to infer from the term 'confederate' early in the entry?

Quick question. Most of the civil war battles seem to have different names according to which side named it, eg Manassas/Bull Run (I think one side named it after the nearest town, one after the nearest river). Was this the case with Gettysburg?
I'm not necessarily suggesting this goes in the entry, mind! I'm just interested.

Fixed that Jodan.
And ZSF - In the South battle are always named for the towns since it was more emotional to do so while Northerners always refer to them as geographic features. It's much nicer to read that the Union captured a stream (Bull Run) instead of reading that they captured a town Manassas.
But since Gettysburg was in the North, the Northern papers and generals used the Southern technique of referring to it by the town name. The Confederates just stuck with their earlier convention (it was the only major battle in the North so why not?).

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
