If he exceeds the half way point, yes! Fortunately we do have a fairly good sized bed.

All couples buying a double bed should realise that although in the first throes of a relationship squeezing into a small (2' 6") single is fun (well you don't actually sleep much do you?), in the long term, you welcome a good night's sleep in a reasonable amount of space. The standard double bed used to be only 4' 6" wide, which gives you a max. 2' 3" & only one side of the bed to droop over.
A king size of 6' or 2m will at least give 1m each. I have read that for comfort each occupant should be able to lie with their hands behind their head, not touching.
