I work on an internet helpdesk and can vouch that email doesn't always work. Never rely wholeheartedly on one system. Quick note on viruses: If an email has an unexpected attachment, delete it immediately.

You work on an internet helpdesk! SO you're the kind of person people spend £1.00 a minute on only to get hacked off...

I'm only kidding.
But while you're here...
Can you tell me how I can get rid of an error message which crops up every time I load windows (98) with a message saying 'missing or corrupt file' (with no hints as to what that file is...

Windows is informative like that...
Run System File Checker (Start, Run, type "sfc", hit OK.) This should pick up any corrupt files. If it finds nothing, boot up in "step-by-step" mode and find out what is being loaded when the error occurs. This may hint at what the "file" is.
