A special day

It was a school day. For me those weren't particularly special but this specific school day was because it was the day the Book Mobile came to school. That WAS special. It meant there were new books to read but even better, books you could buy. So money in hand off I went to the Hall and went to the table where the Book Mobile people were set up.

Lots of different books, lots of different genres. For a rather precocious child who read everything he saw who wasn't yet 9 this was heaven! Then I saw it - a paperback with a blue cover and different coloured letters making up the curious looking title - THE HITCH HIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY.

I did what I always do before reading any book, I read the blurb. It sounded amazing. And it was cheap! I could afford to buy it right there. So I gave the people my money and took my new book away with me.

Little did I know it was about to change my entire life. 1979 was about to get a whole lot more interesting.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
