The Last Time I Saw Duluth
Parolina Spinfork's third volume in her promised five books
of memories from her lifelong fascination with philately offers
much of the same that the first two slammed the reader with.
While it came as a shock to many who read the first volume that
the world of stamp collecting held much in the way of romance,
backstabbing and even fraud, by the second book we were all
amazed that Ms. Spinfork could still walk, let alone perambulate
around the globe making new and exciting discoverys in the worlds
of sex, intrigue and, well, stamp-collecting.
In this third book, she slows down a bit, earning her high school
diploma, almost getting married to a numismatist,
and learns to drive something besides a tractor.
Her writing style never really rises above the enthusiastic
purple prose of her earlier efforts, yet, her earnestness,
desp[ite certain factual and physical misconceptions, manages
to carry you through to the end.
