A Conversation for Home Education
What have you done to my article!
Joe the Dragon Started conversation Aug 9, 2002
I just returned H2G2 and discovered that you have edited my article. You have changed the tone of it entirely and have given some misleading information in the process.
You have removed what I perceived to be the most pertinent points.
I appreciate that you have put in alot of work on this, but in it's current form I don't want it to appear under my name. Joe the Dragon is the name of my website and it is used by a lot of home educators. If they see that article my reputation will be ruined! Home educators have a very active presence on the internet and we dedicate ourselves to stamping out misinformation on the subject of home education. There are parts of your article which simply are not correct.
It is not difficult to get information on home education, although it is difficult to get it from education authorities as they do not like to admit that education is not actually their responsibity, and like to perpetuate the myth that school is compulsory. Their responsibility is schools.
I would appreciate it if you would either substantially change the article or remove it altogether.
Best Wishes
Louise

Right, already replied to this message in a seperate thread...but, have changed the authorship to just me on this copy. I don't know who the sub-editor is but am finding out about that problem. I spent a lot of time re-writing this to get it fit for the edited guide and am very proud of my achievements. Would you please stop these complaints which I feel are defacing my entry as I find this very hurtful. Thankyou.

Now, Pinwheel, telling Louise to stop complaining about the entry isn't quite fair. I know that you're not quite an adult yet, but if you're going to be on h2g2, it's important to be OK with the fact that not everyone is going to agree with you and not everyone is going to approve of what you write.
Louise has personal experience in this area, just like you do, and has every right to point out what she sees as problems in the entry. Just because an entry has gone through Peer Review doesn't mean it's perfect, or even entirely accurate. If you look at the entries that come out in the Edited Guide each week, you'll notice that many people make comments in the threads below the entries, saying that they don't agree with certain bits, or that they've found factual errors in the text, or grammar or spelling errors.
That's all part of life here on h2g2....
Mikey

Oops, sorry Mikey, and sorry Louise, I just got a bit upset because I'd worked hard and wanted you to be pleased.
Forgiven?

I'm the sub who's going to be working on this Entry and, seeing this, I'd like to ask before I edit and send it back if there really are any factual errors that need to be corrected. If so, I'll change them.
Thanks!

Is there anything that needs changing, or can I go on editing it?

It was Joe the Dragon who said she saw some factual errors in the current entry, but she hasn't been replying to these posts. Perhaps you might consider trying to contact her via her website -- she's listed the link above, I believe.
