A Conversation for The Black-Clad and Steel-Toed

Everyone has his or her own preferences, at least until they get the Department of Homeland Security up and running, but please allow me to put my 2 cents' worth in here.....

I've been lurking around backstage for over 30 years, and I have seen steel toes save feet, but I have also seen toes amputated by the overwhelming force of a fork lift running over a steel toed boot.

No matter what you wear, please be careful. Fork lifts, set carts, and David Copperfield's props are dangerous things.

I'd believe it... I just don't know which is better... To wear, or not to wear? smiley - winkeye

As are old counterweight systems... Pig iron, away!

What we should be wearing, and I don't as often as I should, is hard hats.

If someone drops a C-wrench from the grid, a hard hat could very well make the difference between life or death.

This gig ain't worth your life.....

I believe it...
'Course, I'm still in college theatre, so oftentimes there isn't anyone up on the grid whilst I'm on the stage building set. smiley - smiley ('Cos it's two days to opening and the plot's already hung and focused... electrics is just waiting for us grunts to be done so they can refocus. Yes, I love the way those things work... smiley - tongueout)
But that is a good idea... Hard hats. (Filed away in Stage Manager brain)

Went to Target the other day, and found black jeans (Legendary Gold brand, made by Wrangler) for 10 bucks. Pretty good deal.

Nice! Cheap black clothing is always very helpful. Especially as I will be backstage for this gig rather than up in the SM booth...
Darn, that means I have to be nonreflective! smiley - laugh

OK...I'm not gonna preach about the dangers of stupidly handled pyro.
I will, however, say this: If you don't know what you're doing, then don't do it! 100 or more people went to see a show and didn't make it home because of stupidity.Ignorance can be fixed, but stupidity is permanent.
