i dont hate pop. i like pop. the proceeds of pop sales are pumped into proper music which doesnt sell enough on its own to be profitable. thus pop is good.
moreover, staind and linkin park are pop. just with a veneer of instruments.

pop isn't really a music style.
and so thus, not only are Linkin Park and Stained pop, so is Slipknot, Garth Brooks, and many more.
peace.

Gone again Posted Jun 3, 2002
When I was young, narrow-minded adults told me *my* music was rubbish, and only *their* music was *proper* music. As a result, I avoided *their* music like the plague! It wasn't until I was forty that I discovered the sublime perfection of Debussy. The stupidity of those adults, in not recognising that beautiful music is in the ear of the beholder, cost me dearly. [I accept no blame myself: I was a teenager, and so I knew no better than to act as I did! ]
I suggest that music stands or falls on the enjoyment it brings to its listeners. If whatever you define as 'pop' music brings enjoyment, it *is* good music. Just as long as they don't make it mandatory, of course!

Pop stands for popular. Some music is popular at certain times. Linkin Park are popular. I don't like Linkin Park. However, Green Day are also popular. I like Green Day. I like many other current(ish) bands such as Supergrass and Catatonia.
However, I do not limit myself to present bands. I like The Kinks. I like the Who. I like the Beatles. I like the Rolling Stones. And I like Pink Floyd. And I believe they are all popular, therefore they are pop. Therefore, I like pop
So I can't join. Sorry.
And before you rip the p*ss out of me, yes, I know I have no music taste, no, I can't help it and no, I don't care. So sorry to offend

Music made for money doesn't bode well, I admit, but the proof of the pudding still resides in the eating. So what if the pudding was cooked for profit?

The Theory Posted Jun 3, 2002
there is a difference, tho, between art and food.
peace.
Pop, pop, pop music...
Sergeant Mushroom Posted Jun 3, 2002
But whether fancy or basic, food is good to eat- I'm not bothered by art so much as a song that touches something good inside me
Pop, pop, pop music...
The Theory Posted Jun 3, 2002
yes yes. *sure* it is...
(as an interesting sidenote, Theory can... and has... argued *both* sides of this arguement before... and often with the same idea)
peace.
Pop, pop, pop music...
