Perhaps. You may wish to note that the Alhambra in Granada is Spain's most visited tourist destination, yet Granada suffers from nothing like the reputation that Barcelona does. You may not. Either way, Barca has a reputation.

page turner

Yes, I've been to the Alhambra, and in Granada and Malaga for the whole day, we trusted our cameras to other holidaymakers, lost nothing to pickpockets/thieves and I was only approached by one heather-seller in Malaga. We didn't go to Barcelona because of its reputation, unfortunately (we were staying with ex-pats who advised us against going)

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Thanks very much, folks!

RE, if the sub were to change that line to 'Rightly or wrongly, Barcelona is infamous for petty, non-violent thefts...' would that be better?

According to Maria (and various websites), Barcelona *does* have such a reputation. Would you be prepared to soften the message a little, though? For instance:

'Most of these scams are not unique to Barcelona, and anyone who has travelled to any of Europe's major cities will probably recognise at least one of them. However, Barcelona does have a reputation for petty thefts and trickery, and despite various initiatives...' [I am also suggesting you remove '(particularly Spanish cities)' because that does seem unjustified.]

Barcelona is infamous for petty, non-violent thefts, and the bigger the crowd, the greater the risk. There's no need to be paranoid, but don't show off your valuables and keep them in zipped pockets - particularly if you're in a crowd, as you may be for much of the time.

Is that correct? (Rich has already deleted "particularly Spanish cities")
