Chili Bowl Haircut
Created | Updated May 23, 2002
The Chili Bowl is a style of haircut for men, popular in the United States in the 1980s and early 1990s. Hair growing from the top of the head is relatively long, hanging to the middle of the ear where it is cut evenly all the way around the head. Hair growing below this line is shaved close to the head, as in a Buzz Cut.
The Chili Bowl is so named because it looks to have been achieved by placing a large bowl over the head, and cutting off any hair hanging beyond the rim of the bowl.
It can be assumed that women like the look of a man with a Chili Bowl, since many mothers choose this style for their young sons.
