If I could "go back in time and invent anything" I think it would have to be the time-machine. That way I could lay claim to all other brilliant inventions of the past and retire on the royalties.
(Okay, I realise that if I had a time-machine I could go back and deposit 1 penny in a high-interest bank account, etc., but what fun would that be?)
