Sadly Dame Hilda's personage Patrick Fyffe died yesterday so sadly there is no more of Hinge and Brackett but here is an entry about them.

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

'It was formed from Fyffe inability...' should surely be 'Fyffe's inability'?

Other than that a good and comprehensive ( and *very* quick smiley - winkeye)tribute to Patrick Fyffe. Their humour was of a gentler age, and all the better for it.
I was lucky enough to see them perform live on stage some years ago and they were wonderful.smiley - magic

nice,

could do with a few commas in the first sentance, but that's nothing a good subed won't tidy up.

i think you might want to link to another article on drag artisits, i'll see if i can find the link. the more links the better!

it would also be nice to have little bit like,

XXXX died in ?month? 2002 and is suceeded by a pert parrot and three sons. etc.

for example obviously.

this should really go at the end.

also, has his partner retired or still working?

really good entry

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

I believe they first appeared on a show called 'What's Next', which I think was on ITV... or maybe Channel Four. No, it had to have been before Channel Four went on the air. William Franklyn was one of the stars of the snow. Anyone recall it?

Very smiley - blue that he died, but very smiley - biggrin that I too got see them live.

You could possibly make the link to the drag article at the bieginning, but there's a big distinction between drag and Dame Hilda, which was more in the female impersonation bracket (I understand female impersonators *hate* being called drag artistes...)

An amazing;y swift and well-researched entry. I never cease to be amazed and comforted by the speed at which h2g2 Researchers leap to pay tribute to talent passed away. I think it's commendable - well done!

If anyone knows the date that George Logan was born I would be grateful. I scanned ever site I could to try and find it out but to no avail. smiley - sadface

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Oh, DD, you've just answered the question I was going to ask with the same question, ie when was George Logan born?

A lovely entry. I didn't know of the death. What a shame.

They were really superb and I didn't know about the Importance of being Ernest, however their stage characters would have fitted Lady Bracknell and Miss Prism to a 'T'.

I read a couple of reviews about that on line apparently they were brilliant. Sadly I didn't get to see it.

However I did see them in the Grand Opera House, Belfast. they were a classic act. Make's me proud of my asdopted City that this is where they got their first big break. Fingers crossed I'll get mine soon too. smiley - smiley

Hi there DD, smiley - ok

It seems I'm the only person around here who hasn't been a lifelong fan, but I must admit I had no idea what these two could have been famous for! smiley - yikes

I had to have a look for the title alone - I figured there might be a p**s-take in the air! smiley - biggrin Great names!

I like your entry, and it is definitely EG material. I have picked up on quite a few things, I guess; hope you don't mind. smiley - smiley

smiley - ufo

"He started to take the act to clubs initially ass a young glamorous woman,"
- this is a bit unfortunate, i feel! smiley - laugh

"Fyffe's father was an ex-soldier was surprising calm that he son should take up cross dressing as a career choice. "
- I like the effect of this phrase, but the structure has got mixed up, I fear.

"But also insisted "
- ok, pedantic, but I feel sure you could find some better phrasing here. Again, I like the way this is presented, though.

"the escort club in Pimlico"
- The Escort Club rather than 'his regular escort club', or even less likely, 'the escort club that I and all my potential readers will recognise without it needing to be named'! smiley - smiley

Oh dear, I'm going overboard here, but:
"The next year they went down a storm at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe before a successful 17 week run at the Mayfair Theatre in London. "
- Well, I think there is something awry here because of the 'before'. It makes it sounds as if they had already planned the successful run at the MF 'before' taking the EF by storm. Even if the MF run was planned, I would still think 'going on to a successful' or even just 'followed by'. Maybe you will think this is irrelevant, I don't know really.

"part of the D'Oyly Carte Company. It is not surprising therefore that Gilbert and Sullivan featured heavily in their work. "
- In my ignorance, I don't follow what is clearly a reference here. smiley - huh D'Oyly is a character in G&S?

"recieved a "
- well, we've all done it! smiley - biggrin

"She has appeared "
- I think 'has' indicates that s/he is alive (this raises an interesting broader question about personal pronouns in this piece! <hmm&gtsmiley - winkeye

"But the two also took on the roles of Lady Bracknell (Dame Hilda) and Miss Prism (Dr Hinge) in Oscar Wilde's play The Importance of Being Earnest. "
- but I don't think using a definite article is a solution! smiley - laugh

"but appeared before Royalty on more than 15 times."
- 2 things here: I don't think 'but' is right here, not really a contradiction. and could 'occasions be more suitable at the end. 'on... times.' grates.

"Patrick Fyffe was fighting cancer since "
- 'had been'?

"His death on the 11 May "
- It's obvious right now, but what year?

smiley - ufo

Well, I know you've been through PR plenty of times before, so I know you will take all my comments with the requisite condiments. smiley - biggrin

Thanks for this interesting and informative piece, best of luck with it. It seems pretty safe to change sides on your u-space before too long! smiley - ok
