The Mad Vogon's Song

(with thanks to both Sylvie and Bruno)

He thought he saw a Frablingsmythe

Hiding behind some trees

He looked again, and found it was

His middle sister's knees

I wonder why, he suddenly thought,

These things occur in threes?

He thought he saw a Greeblingbird

A-floating in the air.

He looked again, and found it was

A length of ragged hair

‘Twas then he fully realised

The meaning of despair.

He thought he saw h2g2

Balancing on a Post

He looked again and found it was

The outline of the coast.

That could be one of the signs, he feared,

Of a morbid desire for toast.

He thought he saw a Groblintude

Wearing an ethnic shawl

He looked again and found it was

A tournament tennis ball.

At last, he thought, I think I see

The meaning of it all.

He thought he saw a Vogon once

Practising the trombone

He looked again and saw it was

A public telephone.

At last I realise, he thought,

That I am not alone.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
