WinCVS

Not good. I have installed and set up PuTTY, it asks me for my username and password, as expected, it excepts my username, but not my password. The pw works on the sourceforge site, but not for the CVS login... It should be the same pw, yes?

no. for the FTP process at least the password is something else and I can't remember what - maybe it's that password. I'll have a look round sourceforge.

Tango, try is this of any help https://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=57483
?

Nope, no help at all! Thanks for trying. I have installed PuTTY, typed in the host name and set the protocol, as described in the instuctions. It now asks for a username and pw, which it does not except. The instructions say it should now log on, create a folder and log off. It doesn't...

I've just discovered this link: http://sfsetup.sourceforge.net/tutorial_cvsaccess.html
I will examine it in greater detail when I get a chance.
Tango,
You will need to wait at least 6 hours after creating your public/private key pair and uploading the former for the CVServer to get hold of the key.

I havn't got to creating any key pairs (is that something to do with RSA encryption?). I'm following the offical instructions to the letter, but it won't accept the password, I don't have more than one password so what does it want?
That link is if you are using a program someone made to set this all up automatically, might be worth a try, but how do we know if the guy is trustworthy? I don't want to download something without knowing it isn't a trojan or something.
I am *really* confused.

I've run the program: it appears harmless. But I'm still getting stupid errors.
I've temporarily disabled my firewall (gasp). I'll see if this measure works.

Ok, I'm still not sure why it doesn't except my pw. How did you log on first time to the SSH client?

I've been battling on and I still can't get it to work. Anybody else got any suggestions? This Open Source idea is a great one in principle, but if it leads to fiddly, hard-to-use pieces of software then count me out.
If you want to log on first time to SSH you have to have Pageant running and load up your private key. Don't ask why they didn't use a simple password authentication mechanism because this would ahve been much easier.
I got pointed in the direction of TortoiseCVS, which is supposed to be much easier to use: http://sourceforge.net/projects/tortoisecvs/. I haven't got this working either.
Sometimes I despair.

I have managed to get WinCVS 1.3 to run on my machine. Hallelujah!
When I have worked out what I did right, then I'll spread the word.
Praise the Lord.

I've emailed everyone with instructions on how to get WinCVS working. Please let me know when you are ready to go.
