Actually, point 4 would be less prevalent if there was a specific option within the phone to change the message.
On some phones like mine you actually have to go into your voice-mail and then actually realise that the option 'Press 1 to change your mail box features' is where there is an option to change your voice-mail.
Someone had to tell me this since it's not blindingly obvious anywhere what-so-ever in the manual or on the phone itelf.

This is because the voice mail service is not integrated in your phone, but is provided by your .. er.. provider. You need to check their instructions, but calling and following the menu should be relatively self-explanatory.

Try this. My 1571 service provider ntlworld, t/a Virgin, occasionally decides to reset everything so the next time I want to collect a message I have to sit through a 5-minute explanation of how the system works before I can press 1 to hear the message, which is usually a cold-caller putting the phone down one second after it went beep.
