Hi Bossel,
Mark will come back to London after he's been travelling. The BBC sometimes offer people a sabbatical, which means they offer a similar job within the BBC on their return if they'd like to take it. He's unlikely to come back to be Editor of h2g2 though. If you look at his site www.moxon.net you'll see his interest lies in being a writer, rather than an Editor, so I think this probably is the end of an era, and he won't come back to working within the h2g2 team.

Yes I've been to his site Rather got the impression that his home is the road
So it really is 'the end of an era'... sums it up pretty well!

Hi Trillian's Child,
We haven't made any decisions at all on this at the moment, because he's only just announced that he's leaving. Mark's going to be a very hard person to replace. What happens next will be discussed here over the next couple of months, and we'll let you know the plan when it's been decided.

I'd vouch for Bossel. What are the qualifications?

Hi, back again, Saturday morning chores strike!
Well I'm not sure about the German passport bit, but I definitely won't get into that one at the moment!
Qualifications? Oh goodness knows! Maybe I should be asking the Community that question. What do you think makes a good Editor of the Hitchhiker's Guide?

The patience to read through awfully long rants peppered with accusations and misunderstandings, without damaging office furniture and other BBC property in the process

Does anyone know how much Mme Tussaud's charge for a wax copy is? And does Bush House provide some space for a nice pillar somewhere around the entrance?
Something should be done shouldn't it?
