I thought I would contribute this little thought.
My wife studied 1984 and was told a theory about the naming of Room 101. Why is it 101 and not another number, say 42? The theory is that Winston enters as an individual man (1), becomes nothing (0), and is re-made as another man (1).

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
