Bari synthetic reeds are made out of plastic, as opposed to cane. Comments appreciated, as usual.

Hi the Shee!
Nice entry - on a subject I know absolutely nothing about! It's certainly well written and comprehensive.
One suggestion I could make is that it could have a more gentle introduction. Perhaps something about what reeds do in clarinets, and perhaps some more general explanation - I can't really think how or where, because I know nothing, so this is only very tentative comments. Perhaps there could be just a bit more for the non-specialist - it's good for the guide to have a lot of relatively obscure bits of knowledge (for most of us)!
Best wishes
Otto.

*grin* I actually had totally forgotten about that... that other people aren't as specialised as I am, I mean. I realise it, consciously, but don't know how *much* other people know or don't know... and it ends up like that, just sort of launching into it. I think that even leaving it structured like it is, a paragraph or two at the beginning would fit perfectly.
Very nice comment, something I wouldn't necessarily get from another clarinetist.

Here I am...
Nice entry on a wet instrument. That was one of the reasons I chose guitar (sax, horns and reeds are a bit to gooey. I would not have a problem playing someone else's guitar. With a trumpet it's different)
I guess it's just a matter of time until this entry gets picked.
Good job Shee,

Hi Shee!
I've a couple of questions. Why the asterisk and could you give an explanation of the term 'Vandoren'?

the Shee Posted Apr 24, 2002
The asterisk is the the name of the reed ('Bari Star' vocalised; 'Bari*' written and packaged). The company also produces a 'Bari' reed, no star.
Vandoren is *the* manufacturer of clarinet reeds... All clarinetists do (or should) know that name and reference off of it, even if they do not use those reeds. But I can add that to the entry too.
*waves at Hell as well *

Heya, you should enter this info into the entry. I thought the asterisk was a 'TM' or (R) surrogate.
Cheers,

Is
Bari reeds and Bari* reeds are produced by the same company; Bari* are more expensive but generally considered better (think: Vandoren-V12, or Mitchell Lurie Premium). The reeds are sold individually, as each reed is guaranteed to play no matter what and to last longer than a cane reed. Bari clarinet reeds are listed from their company at $12 apiece, and a Bari* reed costs $20. (By shopping around, one can save over half of this list price.)
Not enough?
(I have added a bit of background to Vandoren.)
Also, this entry has been recommended now, so... I've only got so much time to change the stuff.

It's got a copy already.... I guess that means I should scoot over to the sub's page and make a mention, eh?
