Top entry my esteemed friend. Just a few suggestions:
>>> Where can we see these gorillas/where do they live
>>> The Further reading section would look great in a little list.
Other than that I have nowt else to say except
AarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh!

Ah. I was kind of fudging the issue about where they live - if people find out, they might go and hunt them
I'll see if I can shoehorn in some geographical details....

I think I'll post something here after having done a thorough copyright&plagiarism check. The writing style is just *too* perfect

Hi, Jimster!
This is a great entry. I agree with the suggestion that you should mention the geographic areas where the different subspecies are found.
I think a small section on gorillas in captivity would also be useful, and maybe a mention of the various sign-language communiation projects.

Thanks everyone for all the comments. I've amended the second para and grouped it under the header 'General Information', to cover some new research I've unearthed about the classification of different subspecies of gorilla, as well as a little geographical detail.
When I was compiling this Entry, I did read a lot about the sign language projects and other details about gorillas in captivity. I've decided not to go into this aspect of gorilla life for, what I think, is a good reason - this Entry is about gorillas in their natural inhabitat, and how that habitat is under threat *from* humans.
I think that gorillas in captivity would make a superb additional Entry - never know, I might even write it myself - but as I began writing up the section on how mankind has all but destroyed the gorillas in existence, I began to feel uncomfortable with trying to justify our involvement by mentioning how, in captivity, we've made attempts to teach the gorillas how to communicate with us. While I know these projects are immensely valuable, I just felt it a little inappropriate to mention it here when I'm beginning to suspect the best thing we as a species could do is leave them well alone and in peace.
Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it's done immense harm to many other animals. And writing this Entry really brought that home to me...

... not that any of that uncharacteristic "depth" will stop me shamelessly touting this Entry for picking this Thursday

Ah well, that was easy. Any final comments, or is this ready to be scouted?

I've got one pick left, so er... could I raise a discussion about the Bosselhamas? Holidays over there are somewhat expensive, and

Nobody pick this entry!
I've made Jim go in the corner and I've instructed him to stay there for an entire week for blatant misuse of Peer Review.

Warning - Ashley was kidnapped by aliens a few weeks back. That was his identical alien double. Whatever you do, do the OPPOSITE of what he tells you to do.
Mind you, most of us did that with the *real* Ashley...

h2g2 has been taken over by s and bad s!
I think it's remarkable that, in such difficult circumstances, Entries as powerful and pertinent as this are still being written! I can't fault this Entry, so there's only one thing to do...

'Thanky'vurrymuch'
Cheers, Ormonroyd. This topic came completely out of the blue for me, and it's the first one I've written that I got very upset doing the research for. Coincidentally, I was reading 'Last Chance to See' when I learned I'd got this job, so it's good to be able to keep the spirit of that book going.
Thanks again!
