I've been interested in Anime and Manga for quite some time... however geographical and finacial limits have truely held me back...
I asked Blues on Friday about Perfect Blue Vs Metropolis as good places to get back on form... however any other suggestion would be welcome as well as opinions on the various merits of the two films I've stated...
Although if it's un;likely to be stocked in FP suggestions for outlets would be useful...

I think that hitting the classics is always a good idea.
Evangelion
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
and just to annoy Blues shark
Nadesico!
Really, you should see what you can rent or find on teh cheap and then figure out what genres you like. I tend to like Mecha series as well as comedy series.

Being that I am in Salt Lake City, Utah I am unqualified to tell for sure. If you have the bandwidth available, look for fansubs online. I don't know how hard it is to order things in the UK, but you might see if there is a delivery rental service.

28.8bps*laughs a little bitterly*
It can be quite hard to order depending on circumstances...
Any background on the other two titles you mentioned?

Evangelion is considered to be one of the recent classic pieces. It is one of the giant mecha series. Think Gundam Wing with better plot. In a recent Newtype (an anime mag that I get) it was rated as one of the mandatory titles for a collection. It is one of the better series out there.
Nadesico is also a mecha series, but it is humorous and kind of self aware. The characters in it either hate or love anime and there is a series that the characters watch within the series. It is my favourite title.

I'd add both Patlabor movies to that list as well...
For cheap, try e-bay. It really is amazing what crops up on there, ayt silly prices as well.
