A Conversation for The Anime and Manga Shack
Oh my Goddess

This is the only one I've seen all through - my son has loads of DVDs & an actual Japanese Ranma manga book which I've 'read'. I have some earrings he calls my 'Bel Dandi' ones.
There's some beautiful artwork in Anime, much better than trite Disney stuff. Interesting insight into Japanese culture too. I'm hoping to watch some more.

Ah! My Goddess is one of my favourite titles in anime, it is a shame it is as short as it is. But the manga for i is extensive from what I am led to believe. I collect Ah! My Goddess figures as well as the DVDs. I have three figures of Belldandy and one each of Skuld and Urd.

The manga is huge, approaching it's 100th issue as we speak (that's about 5 years worth of japanes material, quite a run by their standards.)
I prefer the manga in some ways, because Belldandy isn't quite such a doormat. However, i have to say that the anime is one of the few on my dvd shopping list.
Teasswill, if you like Oh! My Goddess, try things by Clamp - Rayearth and X are the best examples. They are suningly beautiful, though in a quite different way.

I am trying to find someone who has Rayearth that I can borrow to see if I like it. The video rental stores here have no Anime to speak of.
What kind of series is it?

Depends whether you can get Magic Knight Rayearth or Rayearth, which are two very different series.
MKR is a direct adaptation of the manga series, basically a magical girl saga a la Sailor moon about three Tokyo school girls who are transported to another world and granted magical powers as the legendary Magic Knights. It's wonderful.
Rayearth is a kind of 're-mix', featuring the same characters with hints of the same plot, but a different reading. It's very pretty to look at, but not *as* good as the original. Still recommended though.

I have noted MKR in the lists at my stores. I will borrow it and most likely buy it.
