Tokyopop is currently selling a number of good manga series translated into English.

I was just wondering if anyone else has seen them in stores.
They are selling for $10 US and they are printed in the original Japanese way.
That is to say that they read from right to left so that the original Japanese layout is preserved.
Usually it is difficult to translate Japanese Manga without fliping the panels so that they read from left to right.

I have the first edition of the INITIAL D manga. This is a comic about car racing. I have it also in Japanese and it is very similar to the original.

They are supposed to be sold in big chain stores like Barnes and Noble. Have any of you seen them yet? What do you think of them?

Am reading Island, and Mars already and probably Marmalade Boy when it appears. I haven't seen any of the others yet but will make a decison when I do.
I get a 10% discount from my retailer for being a mail order customer so these really are incredibly cheap for the page count. smiley - magic

I thought that planet ladder looked very interesting. There is also Cowboy bebop and a few others. I have Initial D in both English and Japanese. I see that they are very similar. Actually the English one is blown up just a little. I like Tokyo pop English mangas.

Have you Guys got the second Vol of Initial D ?
They change the names of almost every Character.
Besides in Vol.3 the Data from most of the cars are wrong.
So i would't say Tokyopop makes 100% authentic manga.

Yes,

Initial D is a bit of a sad case. Tokyopop is also bringing out the anime series and they want it to be big like "Speed Racer". Because the money men were worried about all of those Japanese names, they decided to change the character names in the anime. They also decided to change the names in the manga. They said consider the first volume a collectors edition.

When the fans showed some distress at the change, they said,"hey, we had to fight to keep them from changing the car into a Pizza delivery van. The names was a minor thing".

I am ...well...a bit distressed at the direction that this is going. I stopped buying Initial D after the first volume.

Hmm. I wasn't buying initial D so can't comment.

However, Island, Skull Man and Mars all *seem* to be accurate and good translations. I say *seem* because I'm not at all familiar with the originals.

Peach Girl is fabulous, I must say.

I like some shojo, and i like a lot of the shojo influenced titles on the market at the moment - Shadow Star, for example, is one of the best books on the market, imho. It is just being reprinted sooooo slowly...smiley - yuk
