Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Not sure what you said, but you appear to have got up someone's nose.

Give me a clue!

I'm not sure. Probably some bored teenager getting confused.
Let's see...I described the physical characteristics of the Ainu.
I related the Japanese efforts to make them a memory.
I mentioned the fact that the Japanese originally came from Korea...
I mentioned that the Ainu were bear worshippers and fishermen.
I mentioned that some of their islands had been Russian possessions since WWII...
Not sure what else.
Maybe we'll find out.
I forgot to mention that they traditionally tattooed their women, kinda like the Moari.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Fascinating stuff! Out-evolved by a telephone sanitiser, eh!

Clothing made of birdskin, fishskin, hide and plant. It's tempting to think of them (I didn't read all the sections of the second link, but I'll go back to it) as borrowing the qualities of the original skins' owners.

They seem to have had a relationship with the natural world that we have long lost.

This article was a major education for me.
I'm not saying all of it is true. It is intriguing, though.
And rather world-view changing, at least for me.

Probably the 'm' word that caused the moderation.

Can't access the site you posted at present. Maybe their server is down.

You are not the only one to have problems with that link.
Trust me. It takes a couple of tries usually. It seems to be rather popular.

Try a google search for japanroo.htm, then follow the link to the cached page. The page is in the Wayback Machine too http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://cwis.livjm.ac.uk/lan/teaching/japanese/japanroo.htmsmiley - biggrin

Coincidentally, the Wayback Machine is quite a good way of surfing a significant chunk of pre-Rupert H2G2 too smiley - cool

www.archive.org, the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Find all your favorite web pages back to 1996 or so, long after they've gone off line (if you're lucky that is; they don't have the _whole_ internet obviosuly, and dynamic content generally fails). For www.h2g2.com, entries seem pretty well covered, but conversations don't work. Graphics and other multimedia content is only stored with the pages up to around 1998 tho.

I've just managed to open it, but as I should be preparing to leave for the IOW, I'll have to read it in detail when I get back. Yes, it seems fascinating.

I wonder what would happen to the Japanese self image if proof did come along that they were descended from the Koreans?

They's probably claim they were descended from the Royal Family...
and there is a theory to that effect.

Ah, this is not an unknown conundrum in "origin myths".
Many cultures believe they descend from relatives, sometimes siblings.
Of course, this leads to several possible jokes.
