h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I seem to have missed this data for almost a year - or at least missed it's possible relevance to Devon.

PLOS Genetics has analysed Irish DNA for regional differences, and for the first time, found some.

It also compared the Irish data with the UK, and (if I undefstand the graphs), shows a reasonably clear disctinction between the 2 islands with only some "overlapping and mismapping" between Northern Ireland and South West Scotland - indicating 2 way movement between these 2 areas.

It also shows the UK data in a "new way" that I had not seen before, which I think tries to dispkay the various "genetic distances" between each group [although this also seems to overlay a geographic pattern as well??]. I think this uses the older 2015 data, but presents it in a different way.

It shows Devon being seperate from the main South East England group, and further away from it than (say) the "Welsh Marches" "Cheshire" or "West Coast England" (amongst many others), and about as distant as the "Orkney" group - but not as seperate as Cornwall, which is also not as distant as South Wales or North Wales (which are shown as very distinct from each other).

I have tried to look at the underlying PLIS genetics academic paper, but the automatic downloads in it prevent me doing much so far.

Does anyone else have insights into this new(ish) data?
