just wondering if its only poetry or do you get into the folk music side of things as well.
As you find some folk music is a form of old poetry.

Poetry and folk music are indeed soulmates and many of the potry gigs also feature folk music, notably at the Scotia bar in Stockwell St and at Sammy Dows in Nithsdale Road. Wordshare at the RAFA Club in Ashley Street is keen to add music to their activities. Further info on this can be had from organiser Alan Flaconer (see updated edtailson main page) Hope to see more folkies at the poetry gigs.

Folk and poetry
Jim Craig Posted May 22, 1999
Some if the more honest poets I know say that if they could have sung folk songs they would never have written poetry and I am one of them!
There's a constant debate in my family between my son who is a folk singer and song writer (must have been his mother's side of the family) and I about just what was the earliest form. I amintain it was poetry of course with Homer and all that mob but he makes a pretty good case for the old Celtic bards and the Norse sagas which he reckons were set to music. Anyway I like to listen to folk music
particularly Scots/Irish but with a voice like a coalman on a bad day
I'm stuck with writing and reciting poetry! There's plenty of mingling betweenthe poetry brigade and the folkies ay most of the Glasgow venues and the odd musician or two have turned up and claimed floor spots at some of the readings particularly at Sammy Dows in Nithsdale Road. There is a guest spot for musicians there as well and the Scotia in Stockwell St regularly has a band as musical back-up to their reading so why not come along and see how you like it?
