Tempered tuning VS Perfect tuning

How old?
The piano is only +/-300 years old, so the older instruments (such as the trombone, violin, cello, etc... of which most were fretless, or had slidable pitch controllers) played 2 different notes for what are termed 'enharmonic equivalents' (eg: Fsharp and Gflat)
En-Har-Who-E-What's?
So, when the piano was created (or built), the notes that are known as 'sharps and flats' were altered to allow playback with 1 note per 'enharmonic equivalent'.
