I didn't understand it when I read it back then, and I still don't get it, but that's as much to do with the fact that I never read Finnigan's Wake and haven't a clue what it is about as with the funny language you use. smiley - laugh

However, I think it is very clever. smiley - ok

smiley - laugh Thanks.

If you think of it as being an extreme example of what we call in the US 'talking double-Dutch', you might get some of the fun of it. smiley - winkeye

We have actually had famous practitioners of a similar art.

The first one was very funny, but the second one was hard to understand. So maybe knowing what it is all about makes the difference. smiley - smiley

Professor Irwin Corey has been doing that for years, Bel. It's a real example of double-talk.smiley - rofl You're not supposed to be able to follow it. A bit like Loriot, I think.

Thanks, Willem.smiley - smiley I love 'Finnegans Wake'. It's full of great jokes. (Just start anywhere - pinprick divination works on that book.)

I love the idea of having a word that can mean both "muffled" and "slurry".

It conjures up images of farmers acting highly eccentrically. smiley - laugh

Oh wait, it's "slurry" as in "slurred". That's a bit disappointing.

I was too lazy to look it up - it never pays to be lazy. smiley - laugh

smiley - rofl Sounds like a word for Humpty Dumpty.

muffled + slurry = murry? sluffled?
