Also, the English have done many terrible things in the past, but I do not feel bad about it because I did not do it. As long as we stick together and try and do good, although this will not wipe out all the badness in the world, it will certainly go a long way!!!!

the Dutch like to feel bad to make us to heros later. we helped Mr Nelson Mandela and he thanked us by visiting our country and thanking us again. it makes feel better.

Back in the days of the rinderpest when I was a schoolboy 
I grew up in a predominantly Afrikaans neighbourhood. My best friend's grandmother wouldn't speak to me at all because I spoke English and she had suffered terribly in a British concentration camp during the Anglo-Boer War. 
and I'm not even British!

Pheloxi, I never knew you were Dutch (well, Euro-Dutch?).
I have lots of family (by marriage) in Holland around Amersfoort. (sp?) I also speak Afrikaans fluently and can understand Dutch when spoken at a slower pace. But I'm sure that I would sound like a pre-school toddler if I tried to speak Dutch!
I am of mixed English, Gaelic, Greek and Dutch origin - a real mongrel born under Africa's sun. 
Perhaps you can help me on another post at A814899 on F97413?thread=214641 about the exact meaning of the Dutch word 'Stoep' 
I would welcome you input!
