Does the year count as a word??? And there is also a footnote. Surely those words should be included also!

Yes the year is a word. And the footnote is just the translation.

Hm.
1896 is not a word but a number. Ergo it was only 44 words.
And I still think the footnote is a part of the entry (in the subs editing debate about brackets or footnotes, it was said that they can be interchangable, but a footnote looks more proper) so it should be counted!
Hmm. I think we'll agree to disagree on this one...

Are numbers a language? Surely they are pretty much universal? Its only when said in words that they differ? Hmm... Take this further, would you say a smiley is a word?
