Hi again Bob
The River Rhone fleet the Classis Fluminis Rhodani, had two home ports were Aries modern Arelate a major port since Phoenician times and its size and status as a Colony of the veterans of the VI Legion a favourite of Caesar’s who’s nickname was the Ferrata or ‘Ironclad‘4.
that's very difficult to read and understand it could be better presented thus:
The River Rhone fleet the Classis Fluminis Rhodani had two home ports. The first was Aries (modern Arelate), a major port since Phoenician times.
I am unsure what the next bit refers to, the city or the fleet?
"...a favourite of Caesar’s who’s nickname was the Ferrata or ‘Ironclad‘4."
I really am lost there, to what is that referring?
I'll pop back to finish that section when you've replied, Bob

I like this entry. My comments to be ignored/acted on so far are:
Should it be Empire or empire? It is confusing to have both when I think you should chose one and stick with it. In the first paragraph you write 'the empire and the Empire existed'
'It was because of the non citizen, auxiliary status of the of the Greeks, Egyptians and other conquered seafaring nations that built the ships and provided the crews, the navy was regarded as an inferior service.' - would this read better if you wrote 'that the navy was regarded as...'
Perhaps add links where appropriate to Claudius, Julius Cæsar etc?
Don't worry, I'm currently working on an Ancient Rome related project myself, and you can have your revenge and tell me what I should re-write soon enough.

Great article Bob. I learnt a lot about the Romans. 5/5 I would personally rate it. You could pass as a history proffessor anyday.
