Actually, the saxophone can have a better range of dynamics than your average brass instrument, although it takes a LOT of skill to successfully support the tone in the lower register quietly, especially on Baritone. (my chosen horn) Specifics on size, the Contrabass is around 6.5 feet high, with the mouthpiece about halfway up. (I really really really want to learn to play one. Whoever said size doesn't matter never played the sax.)
