It might also be a function of a new nursery school...
He was probably used to the germs at the old place and now is getting to know a whole new batch!
It's one of the things our kindergarten teachers always say: You can tell a kids who has been to nursery school versus one kept at home because the homebody catches every cold and flu that passes through the school. 
Sometimes I miss those days as as my little one is nearing age 3. I love babies and the glee they find in common everyday things...
