Besides which, on big screen Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce's legs - especially in the scene where they emerge from the bus to find Terence Stamp face down in the cake - are cinema seat staining stuff.

I have to make a confession here - I'm not entirely sure which of this actor/director's many films it comes from, but if it's the one I'm thinking of, there's a scene where someone says something very true - that James Mason is the hardesst voice in the world to impersonate.

Which narrows it down not one iota for me.

For some reason I'm assuming actor/director means someone like Clint Eastwood...

This particular actor/director is more closely associated with the east coast than the west, and rather more of a wimp than Clint.

And if that ain't enough of a clue, there's even more of an age difference between himself and his than there is between me and Mrs Gosho

Definitely Woody Allen, not so sure that it's TTMAR though.

Well that is the only Woody Allen film I could think of that is set (at least partially) in the South and features a chain gang. Oh well...

Hullo Gosho, good to see you again. This Woody Allen quote has me baffled. The only other chain gang like reference I can think of is the erection men in 'Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex' but they sing 'mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord'. Unless there's something I've forgotten in 'Sweet and Lowdown'. But I'm just stabbing wildly in the dark here.

I was thinking 'Broadway Danny Rose', but I'm not 100% sure now
