There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Here are two more for you, from films maybe not so different as one might think at first:

"I'll be taking these Huggies... and whatever you have in the register"

"Going to Mississippi, going to see Miss Liza"

The last quote sounds as if it's a line from "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" ... no finer movie has ever been made. smiley - ok

Perhaps the similarity is that both movies involved cross-country road trips. Perhaps I'm completely wrong. smiley - erm

"Wong Foo" is, of course, a pale imitation of the Aussie movie from which the idea was stolen - "Priscilla - Queen of the Desert".

smiley - erm Sorry! Just had to point that out.....

I've seen them both, and while the plots are similar, the spirit is not. "To Wong" is a kinder, gentler and warmly sappy version.

"Priscilla", pardon the expression, was bitchy and I didn't like it. smiley - tongueout

"kinder, gentler and warmly sappy" - exactly my point! It's a pale imitation. smiley - winkeye

smiley - erm I haven't seen either movie all the way through, but "Aussie is *always* best" smiley - tongueout

Sorry, but I can't quite remember where I've heard the second quote. Someone will have to help me out on that one. smiley - smiley

The first quote is 'Raising Arizona'. The second is almost certainly 'O Brother Where Art Thou', the connection being the near godlike Coen Brothers, before whom I smiley - grovel in awe.

How we doing so far there, Gosho?

(Oh, and Aussie is better in *this* case, but not always. For God's sake, you've never apologized for foisting Mel Gibson on the rest of us, though Peter Weir and Bryan Brown nearly make up for it.)

Hey, you foisted Mel on us first! He was, after all, born in the USA, we thought that turn around was fair play...

I'm English. The country you foisted Rolf Harris on. Come on, admit it, frankly it's not a good record is it.

Neighbours. Holly Valance. I mean, you don't have a defence, do you? smiley - winkeye

Oh well, Blues Shark, if you're English then you only have yourself and your fellow countrymen to blame. Neighbours isn't all that popular here. In fact it is rumoured that if it weren't for it's popularity in Britain, Neighbours would have been off the air years ago. smiley - nahnah

We did only mean to foist Mel onto the USA, but being able to annoy the English with him at the same time is an added bonus!

Hmm, it was the obvious chain gangness of the chant that led me to O Brother.

The other film that sprang instantly to mind was Jim Jarmusch's brilliant 'Down By Law'...

Not Down by Law either, although I can see how it might fit in to that marvellous film.

I'm thinking that there is a film which features Nic Cage on a chain gang. I can hear him saying 'Get a drink of water, boss?'. Does 'Con Air' start with him on a chain gang? I really can't remember.smiley - erm
