"I use Opera on a more or less regular basis. Not because I think it is any better than another browser, just to see what it does with my pages.

I use the free version only! Not because I like the adverts, but for some other reasons.

Why does it crash after a while? The version I use on WIN98, Opera 7.54 has a frequency of about once a day to crash!

Then you write 'it is fast', well it does the job as fast as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

Why do some pages keep loading indefinite?

I got another (more recent) version on an XP system, I cannot get that one to accept cookies. smiley - erm "

"With the performance I get from Opera I only use it for DNA sites . . . I have not problems with Firefox, altough I manage to crash it about once a Danda. Internet Explorer lives for about a Quik, also on DNA only.

I like the tabbed browsing, but I also appreciate the policy to look at a page when you have it loaded. "

I found Opera stopped crashing when I bought a new computer and wasn't using a crappy one anymore. So it wasn't Opera's fault at all.

"Why does it crash after a while?"
Because you are asking your PC to do more processing than it is capable of. To avoid this (a)try not opening so many tabs in Opera and (b) try pressing CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the Windows Task Manager to see how many applications/processes you have running in the background (far more than you think I suspect), on many machines these background applications can be a powerful drain on resourses (try looking at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml )

"Then you write 'it is fast', well it does the job as fast as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox."
It has a smaller, tighter codebase than IE or Mozilla so it is faster but as processors have got more powerful & PC's gainded more memory this has negated some of the advantages the smaller code base brings. (if you realy want fast tabbed browsing try the Elinks browser).

"Why do some pages keep loading indefinite? "
bad html & slow servers

"I cannot get that one to accept cookies."
the options are pretty self evident if you look smiley - erm

"Hmm, I only try to get this browser running smoothly as I believe some will appreciate the rendering of pages should at least be equal on the most popular browsers.

Well perhaps, just why stay the others happy on the same (overloaded) system. I try to limit the tabbed browsers to less then ten tabs. It is just only Opera to bail out every day. Besides it is on a 300MC processor. I accept some crashes while I overload my system, it occurs to me Opera drops the stick before any of the others do.

>*Why do some pages keep loading indefinite? *

I only use Opera for the DNA sites, as it already give meenough problems keeping it running. I limit the rest of the internet to FireFox as that one does not give any problems.

Well that is what I thought so too, I have had Opera running on some five systems by now, only this one just refuses to accept cookies whatever I configure in the 'Tools/Preferences/Privacy' tab.

Oh yes that is where I finally found the 'Enable automatic redirection' check box, thanks 'Mina'. smiley - biggrin"

"I try to limit the tabbed browsers to less then ten tabs." try opening 10 web pages in IE & see which crashes first.

"I only use Opera for the DNA sites" say no more we all have problems here from time to time regardless of browser.

have you space on your HD to store cookies?

if you only use it for DNA, try Elinks, I have version 0.93 running fine on XP and it is blisteringly fast for hootoo smiley - smiley

"For some reason I have a rather good knowledge of the Quality of Service for the DNA systems smiley - biggrin

I can assure you I will report them as Server Errors not as browser problems.

Internet Explorer crahses when some 21 windows are open. Opera manages with three <?>

On the XP system (the cookies problem) I have rights for disk space. It has functionend the first time (until Opera dropped the stick). "
