Petition for new sidekick

This is my attempt to start a petition to get Florence Hoath - Nancy in the Empty Child w/C. Eccleston - as the/a new sidekick for Dr Who.
She's a great actress and her accent worked well and wasn't phoney sounding (she maybe sounds like that anyway).
Lets get lots un lots of people saying yo (or whateva) and tell the Beeb how WE feel. Yeah - rite on goddamit.
So I'm the first vote then and I'm not gonna get offa-mah-cloud 'til this is done. So there. The end.
Duddle duhdun duddle duhdun duddle duhdun duddleduhduddle duh (rpt)

Hmm. Someone down my local Who group made the same suggestion. Either they were suggesting that sweet little six-year-old formerly empty child be brutally written out (the bounder!) or they're suggesting the same sweet little etc etc be another new regular. Which if nothing else would be a challenge for the writers...
can't see it meself.

Well I'm presuming that when Rose went whizzing off with Dr Who, whatever effect she had on things/life before that remain.
SO
Can't the Dr go to the point in time when said child is all grown up - or at least looking after himself a bit more then Nancy can be whisked off with said Dr?

You're talking at least ten years, which would sure make her a different person (as well as rather old for a Dr Who companion).
Also, when you have a companion from history, unless you write them very carefully every episode turns into 'what's this Doctor?'/'Well, Nancy, it's called a computer/television/laser' - it's tough to have a character less knowledgeable than the viewer unless they have some other characteristics to compensate for that.

Well I'm not a writer but someone could do it I bet. It'd also be good to have someone question technology as a way of educating the audience - would it not? It's worked for me in other sci-fi. And wouldn't it be a good refresher course for us less knowledgable types?
Make-up can make her look older - it wouldn't take much. It's not like she'd have to wear it all the time (the actress I mean).

Yeah, I can see what you mean, but there's a difference between 'questioning technology' and 'having to have everyday appliances explained to her'.
and the ten-years-older thing isn't just a question of appearance... I don't behave the same way I did ten years ago, I have a different set of attitudes and approach to living, it'd be the same for anyone I think. Particular someone like Nancy who wouldn't necessarily have an easy life.

<> - but Florence Hoath (Nancy) is an actress. She'd be able to do these behavioural changes etc. And Nancy not having had an easy life might give an extra dimension to things. Plus, the character would be more mature than Rose also. Do you not think.
And as for the "everyday things" - well I'm sure she'll get the hang of things once she's been to the future (far future that is) after all Rose had never seen a Dalek or been on a space station orbiting the earth. A mobile phone, for example, to Nancy would be nothing once she'd seen other things.

I'm not saying Ms Hoeth couldn't act older, my point is that the character would inevitably change - and that might mean the things you like about the 1940 version of the character wouldn't be there ten years later.
Anyway, yeah, well, it's not that major a problem, I just can't see it happening while Rusty Davies is in charge of the show - 'mature and worldly-wise single mum from 1950' doesn't sit well with the generally frothy and superficial tone of most (not all) of his contributions to the series.

I'm not sure it's the characters "1940s time placement" that appealed as much as the actresses ability and accent/voice. And to see a different side of her (Nancy) would be also.
And as for not sitting well - I for one am getting a tad bored of Rose though I must admit I can't quite put my finger on what it is.
So - Florence as Nancy as Dr Who's new sidekick
