"Not at all. Blink (mentioned above) wasn't too scary for kids. I thought the spoiler episode was great but I kept thinking 'this is a classic Who story with classic Who characters (think Greatest Show in the Galaxy but done properly!) but there's no Doctor.' It reminded me of 'The Empty Child'."
I really enjoyed the circus episode, largely for those reasons: it was a typical Who story placed in a more post-watershed setting. It was exactly what we should have had from "Torchwood" to begin with, rather than all that embarrassing "look-blood-and-sex!" nonsense. I'm pleased at the hint that the ringmaster and co might return in the parent series; they'd be very welcome.
"I'm glad Torchwood is better this season but it worries me a touch that season 2 has been so good that season 4 of Who is going to be "kiddy" and they've split "the product" in two erm ."
I think series two of new Who went a bit "kiddy" ("Impossible Planet" and "Girl In The Fireplace" being honourable exceptions) and suffered for it; they pretty-much knocked things back into whack for series three, though. They've actually split the product in three with the kid-specific "Sarah Jane Adventures" so essentially both parts of the "Who" audience are specificially catered-for by spin-offs. I don't see why either should affect the parent show.

Good point. I'd forgotten about the SJA; I saw the 'pilot' and half of the last episode of the series but, because it's on while I'm at work, it's been off my radar. What I did see of it impressed me greatly and I'd say that it does cater for the DW "kiddy" market just as it is intended to do.
You're right that the parent show should be unaffected but I wonder if RTD, the exec producers, or whoever sometimes look at a script and think 'that's good, but we can do more with it on Torchwood'. I know I'm talking "what if" but I can imagine 'Ghostlight', for instance, having been snatched from Who in favour of Torchwood to make it more adult and scary.
I'm intrigued by Martha's contribution to Torchwood so far; my prediction, when I heard she was going to be in season two, was that Owen would get killed off and they'd need a new medical officer. I was so pleased I was right- for a week! Glad they kept Owen but I'd expected Martha to be in until the end of the season. I don't know if she'll be back for the last few episodes but it makes me wonder how much Torchwood will be involved in DW season 4. Hmmm?
I'll watch the spoiler episode on BBC3 on wednesday but I'm out of the country next week so I should be level when I get back. BBC seem never to spoiler the last episode of a programme (they certainly don't with Spooks) so I guess I'll be back on track for the end of the season. It can't be long after Torchwood ends that Who starts again can it?
Van (looking forward to great episodes of all three series )

well, the penultimate one was interesting, clearly just a set up episode for the last one which makes me wonder about all the backstory for the various characters. Don't think subject matter for the final episode is any sort of surprise which leaves me wondering whether they just couldn't be bothered with a proper story for this one.
And being penalised for watching it by having to wait for the finale on beeb2 in 2 weeks time, not fair.

"Can anyone enlighten me as to how the 7 o'clock "cut" versions of Torchwood are the same length as the original showings?"
According to Al Murray when he had Barrowman on as a guest, they consist of three minutes of plot and lots of overhead shots of Cardiff.

There's one on tonight. I think things went a bit odd over Easter, because I couldn't see when the digital one was on. Caught it on iPlayer, though.
