Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Well yes, but if Auntie herself isn't reporting this the source is unreliable. The stuff I looked at on t'interweb said "unnamed BBC source" which, frankly, could be anyone.

Which papers talked to him? The only quote from Simm I've seen comes via the unnamed source and sounds suspiciously like the quote Simm gave when he was cast as The Master.

Sorry if I seem overly sceptical, but you do seem rather excited over something which at the moment is rumour at best.

I think Simm would make a brilliant Doctor though...

trouble is he'd be too much like the Master

what do we think of the upcomming CIN sketch?

>you know john simms...he is going to be the next doctor!!!!
DAJAVU MUCH!!!

Extremely unlikely. One thing Simm is well-known for is never sticking with anything for long - he seems to have some sort of issue about being stuck in a rut. It's why he only did "The Lakes" and "Life On Mars" for two series each and why I'd (correctly) guessed that his Master would be "killed" or regenerate at the end of series three.

The likelihood of him playing the Doctor is miniscule because as well as Simm's dislike of roles he would be expected to return to there's the fact that he's played a major villain in the series. Colin Baker played a baddie before he played the Doctor, of course, but hardly someone on the same level as the Master.

So I'd say, given all that, this is a false rumour.

Is it a sketch or is it something that fits into continuity in the way the "epsiode" broadcast on CIN in 2005 did?

I would expect it to be more like the 2005 clip than the 1993 (?) version...

You can discount every single rumour about who's playing the 'new' Doctor. The position's not actually vacant. The press have been reporting this 'news' for two years now - it's a way to sell papers. Nothing more.

Like that nonsense about Lily Allen being the 'next' companion. The NEXT companion is Kylie. The one after is Catherine Tate and Freema Ageman. No-one's been cats for the one after, yet.

Would it be a talking cat in the same style of Skippy and Flpper? (Neither of which were/are a cat but I hope you know what I mean).

Or Cat from Red Dwarf? smiley - run

Yep, sorry. April (fools) edition of DWM, goodness knows how long ago, ran a story that an upcoming adventure would see the 7th Doctor and Ace materialise onboard Red Dwarf. As a fan of both shows, I was very disappointed to have been fooled.
