Just to add to this, the publishing rights to the music rest with Chapell, not the BBC. I believe this is because Ron Grainer was not a BBC employee when he was commissioend to write the music.

I've got the Who theme on CD somewhere... shame it's the eighties synth version.

Don't think any of the most recent Justice League were lawyers, but Daredevil's a lawyer. So's the She-Hulk. And Howard the Duck. And one version of Vigilante, if we're going to be really obscure.

Variations on a theme:
Excellent versions of the Who theme have been done by the following:
The Timelords (aka the KLF) who did a really good 'minimalist' version of Doctorin' the Tardis.
Orbital produced a techno version of the original theme, complete with 2nd Doc and Jamie samples.
Bill Bailey turned the theme into 60s Belgian Jazz. I believe "Docteur Qui" is on 'Bewilderness'.
...and you might want to try whomix.trilete.net for non-commercial fan versions.

I agree, although I have enjoyed many of the subsequent versions too.
However, the current 'real-orchestra' version does little for me. Sure, I suspect they wanted to amplify the 'Victorian gothic' aspect, but it lacks a certain weirdness for my liking.

Funnily enough, last night I spent time with eldest daughter checking out the different theme versions on the website. She thought the 80s version was really cool ... and very 80s.
I like the current mix.

I really like the current theme. It retains enough of the original arrangement, and what it adds is simple enough not to be jarring. And I *love* the new one they first used on The Christmas Invasion, because it's got the middle section in it, which I find quite joyous.

Yeah, is it me or have they adapted it a little in certain episodes to make it more in keeping with the vibe of the story?
...after checking out the previous posts on this thread I feel like I seem to have opened a rather nasty can of worms! Had no idea some people had such strong views...
Will check out the pages mentioned-thanks
