Noticed that there was nothing around on my own addiction and favorite vice, so I wrote this. Hope it isn't too bad.

Great article, loads of detail and the author isn't afraid to air his own prejudices
A couple of points I noticed:
It wasn't my experience that records were a cheap format when they were originally made. OK singles weren't too dear but if a new album came out by a favourite artist a schoolkid would have to save up for weeks to afford it. That's why there were second-hand record shops in every town.
Are there no female record collectors?
and lastly, of course Zoot Horn Rollo played the guitar solos on Ella Guru. What is there to argue about?

Oh, I didn't mean that records were ever cheap to buy brand new. I just meant that many came to them through those very second hand shops that you just mentioned. (drawing from personal experience, that was exactly what happened to me)Sorry that didn't come across.
Have you ever met a female record collector? I don't want to be sexist, but I've found that the majority are blokes. It's like comics really, and big fast cars, a very male dominion. Feel free to prove it wrong, that is after all what the edited guide is for!
Btw, you sure do know your Beefheart Andy!

I'm interested about your comment in the article about misprinted records.
I actually own a misprint CD - I bought (I thought) a billy bragg single and when I got home it was actually David Bowie - still got it somewhere- will this be worth anything?

Hang on to it, it probably will be one day. There's already a market for limited edition CDs and Imports, so it's only a matter of time before it gets there. I'm not too sure about CD prices at the moment, Vinyl's really more my thing. If you get in contact with Record Collector magazine, they would be able to tell you exactly.
