Lurk - cool idea.
Bookmark... isn't that pretty much the same as lurking (after all, if you're lurking you shouldn't be posting, so it you post a lurk smiley, then you're pretty much bookmarking)?
Besides, isn't real bookmarking done by simply subscribing?

Not when you hang out a Lil's Atelier. It's a high volume forum that generates lots of backlog. Many of us leave calling cards (bookmarks) as place holders when we don't have time to participate in the conversation.
Read the Atelier page for a nice description of courteous bookmarking.

I'm not really here Posted Nov 5, 2001
I always think bookmarking is a really bizarre thing to do anyway. After a few more postings elsewhere the thread drops off the page anyway.
Can someone explain the point to me please?
(I just go round subscribing to pages and forums. I dread to think how many...)

If you're reading backlog in long conversations, but haven't got time/can't find anything to post, it's nice for yourself to make a bookmark, so you can find back and don't have to read *all* of the - even longer - backlog next time you come back.
(And in the Atelier -as the page tells you - they like people to leave a calling card... erm... )

Ah, that explains it a bit. It doesn't explain why sometiems people bookmark an entry by making a forum just to bookmark it, then never come back. Which I've also seen people do.
Calling cards? Isn't that a euphamism for doogy do?

I feel stupid. I was fighting with backlog on the Atelier and never thought of bookmarking (I rarely post anything there...)

My ears are burning.
Mina I bookmarked your entry because I knew I'd never find it again & I do go through my MP pages looking for "bookmarks", if I join another thread, then someone else's title shows on my page, which I don't recognize.
Oh, all this talk of poo, you reminded me of when I watched "Kelly's Home Videos" last night {like "You've Been Framed" after the watershed} and someone had videoed a gorilla who squatted, s**t on his own palm, then ate it.
I hope I don't reincarnate as that gorilla's next mate.

OK, we get it now - good idea! We've added a bookmark smiley to the Actions section of the ideas list.

Ah, now I understand. It did confuse me for a while. Maybe because I don't go searching back through my pages.
