Hi Bluebottle.
Not meaning to start off on the wrong foot, I think you'll find that Mantell was treating a patient in Ringmer, not Cuckmere, when his wife found the Iguanadon's tooth. I'm from around there, you see, and Ringmer is a only a few miles outside Lewes, where-as Cuckmere is a fair distance (about 14 miles - more likley to be covered by a locum from Seaford). There is an excellent book called "The dinosaur hunters" which chronicles the birth of palaentology in Victorian England. Thoroughly recommended.
Why aren't any of your entries in peer revue?

Aaaargh!
Cuckfield - Cuck*field*. (It was getting late).
The original find was nearby a road outside Ringmer, but the stone was then traced back to a quarry near Cuckfield.
Thanks, I'd have never found that out otherwise.

Thanks for your interest! I've ammended the Cuckfield/Ringmer situation as you have suggested.
The reason that these articles aren't in the Peer Review system, apart from the fact that I've not finished them (especially "Live From Dinosaur Island" - did you watch that?) is because I hope that they'll go through the University system instead. That way they'll stay together and not be approved in drips and draps, one by one, but the downside of that is they'll be noticed by a lot less people.

How does what you have read so far read?

Hi Bluebottle. I caught a single episode of 'live from dinosaur island' and thought it was terrible. It did however fire me with a need to go to the Isle of Wight with my trusty geology hammer and bash some rocks (in a responsible manner of course) in search of that neovenator skull (I'm sure I have one of those somewhere...)
Like your articles so far. I'd be delighted to do a bit of voluntary commenting if you wouldn't mind. I'm a bit busy at the mo, though, as I have just been made up to a sub-ed, and really should be getting in with that. That's if you wanted any constructive critisism that is. . .
It helped with the ophthalmosaur piece though, as I hadn't realised I'd got the spelling wrong. Ophth, as in ichth. Never noticed, myself. . .

I'm halfway through writing a review of "Live From Dinosaur Island". I thought it was good when the presenters were out of the way, and the real scientists who actually knew what they were talking about were allowed to talk to the camera. I'll let you know when that's up and running. In the meantime, if you have any comments you'd like to make about the other articles, feel free to. smiley - smiley

Hi Bluebottle. It was the first episode I saw, which seemed to be made up of nothing but presenters (Bill Oddie and the bloke from 'What did the Victorians do for us'). WHY?
I'll have another look at the other articles when I get a chance.
